First Run2Heal Event - Coming Up Real Fast – One Week to go!!! With Christmas indulgences well behind us everyone at Run2Heal is full steam into preparing for this year’s first Run2Heal event taking place at Hamilton Lake, Hamilton on 26 February! The lovely Tina Cross and others are set to sing us around the course and there is a rumour that an international star will be there too! Silver Olympic Medallist in rowing Sonia Waddell will be running and there’s a Rocky Horror aerobics warm up to get you motivated with lots of prizes and fun for the whole family.
Win an Audi A3 Sportback and Enter Run2Heal!!! So far, over 14,000 of us have entered the Win an Audi competition but thousands of you have somehow forgotten to enter the Run2Heal event!!! So, I am on a mission to recruit you! Even if you feel more comfortable cruising behind the wheel of a brand new Audi (easy to relate to) how about your personal warrant of fitness? Run2Heal makes it easy to get in shape with great training programmes from ASICS and Les Mills and information on how to fuel your body www.run2heal.co.nz.
A Huge Inspiration!!! Lillias and I have worked together on Run2Heal for four years or so and if you’ve entered Run2Heal before you will know Lillias! How could you forget? She’s one of life’s unforgettable people! Well you’d be forgiven if you don’t recognise her this year as after being exposed to Run2Heal and ‘all that health crap’, something has rubbed off. Wait for it! Lillias has lost 28kilos, walks daily and is generally kicking butt – yes, she’s now Smokefree and dangerous! She’s also moved on to work in an all male environment (go Lillias) although, luckily for us, she still has a part time hand in Run2Heal and will be at the events. Next week, Lillias tells her story!!! If YOU have a story to share email allisonroe@xtra.co.nz.
Two Weekly Prize Draws – Fantastic Sponsor Prizes Starting this weekend, there will be regular prize draws, but only for those who have entered a Run2Heal event. If you have only entered the win an Audi competition, then go on line now and register for an event in your area www.run2heal.co.nz to be in to win fabulous sponsor prizes.
Run2Heal - An Entertaining Experience Run2Heal is as much about being entertained and having a good time as it is about running and walking. Tina Cross is all fired up for the entertainment slot which she will share throughout the series with Jackie Clark, Taisha & Suzanne ‘The Lady Killers’will appear in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. At Hamilton Tina will be joined by some very interesting and surprising characters! There’ll be singing, cerroc dancing, great prizes and inspiring guests plus fun things for kids to do!
Annabelle White, Mrs Christmas (or the Cuddly Cook) MC for Run2Heal Reports from New York…… “Santa and I are truly aware of the need to work off those mince pies and slices of Christmas cake – walking is such fun after the confines of the sleigh and working with the reindeer – but the latest research out of Britain says we need to increase the amount of raw food we eat, so buy NZ summer fruits like peaches, nectarines, apricots and plums. Wash and slice and combine with fresh berries and a few tablespoons of passion fruit syrup. Serve with natural organic yoghurt for a taste sensation. Keep a container full of this luscious salad in the fridge so if you are feeling a little lacking in energy in the afternoon have a few spoonfuls. Within days you will be glowing like lights on a sparkling Christmas tree. Enjoy!”
Annabelle will MC our Run2Heal series with the very enthusiastic John McKenzie. Annabelle is no slim-line athlete but she indulges in exercise every day and has ‘gone down a few dress sizes’ by just adding a daily walk to her hectic schedule.
Did you know that….. Regular consistent exercise reduces your risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, depression and all kinds of cancers. Exercise is one of the best detoxifying mechanisms easily available to all of us.
Taking a Walk on the Wild Side – Allison Roe Even though I am a runner from way back I love to walk. This first run2heal newsletter is being written as Alan and I meander along the Forgotten World Highway on the road to the Republic of Whangamomona. This is an exotic location, in New Zealand, a step back in time through subtropical rainforest and untouched scenery just as it was thousands of years before. One of the convenient things about running and walking and getting ready for Run2Heal is that you can stop the car and take a walk somewhere different. On this particular walking diversion we never saw another human being as we communed with nature, observed Maori heritage sites, counted numerous trophy pig skins on fences and discovered a coal seam (where I mined a sizeable piece of coal) on the side of a road. Getting away from it all is what we need (for mental and physical health) and even if it is just an escape from the daily routine, a walk or run, in a different, park, beach or mountain does wonders for the soul.
New Supporters for Run2Heal In the next newsletter we’ll introduce new Run2Heal supporters like IO Ltd, DVD Unlimited and PBT. They all share The Run2Heal vision for a healthier NZ. We’ll also give you a run down on who the Allison Roe Trust for womens health is supporting at this time.
Girls Weekend Away? If you’ve entered the Run2Heal Auckland give yourself a head start and join us in Hamilton too. Treat yourself to a weekend away, or simply grab some friends or family; it’s a comfortable 1.5 hr drive. Leave at 6.30 and you’ll be there by 8.00 and at that hour of the morning there’s NO TRAFFIC! The ‘Rocky Horror’ aerobics warm up starts at 8.30 and the run/walk at 9.00. If you don’t have time for a bite before leaving home, Kellogg’s are kindly providing breakfast following the run/walk!
Enter Run2Heal at www.run2heal.co.nz. Bring a friend and help us double the funds raised for women’s health.
See you in Hamilton!!! |
